'Viva Chile!' 'Viva Brasil!': Google Doodle Captures the Thrill of First Knockout Round

The doodle showed the earth in place of one of the Os of Google, a jumping football on the map of South America and cheers for the two rivals ahead of the match, which was a thriller in every aspect. Both teams finished 1-1 after the end of the official time and went on the decide the match in extra time.

The thought of sudden World Cup elimination was on the minds of Luiz Felipe Scolari and his Brazil squad as they entered the stadium to take on Chile.

A win over Chile will keep Brazil on track for its sixth World Cup title, while a loss would be considered a massive failure in a country which has invested billions to stage the tournament.

Brazil has reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup every time since 1994. Its last elimination in the second round was against Argentina in 1990.

The next match between Colombia and Uruguay will be played at 1:30 am (IST).
