It would qualify as a lucky day. A couple in a kayak have survived after a humpback whale shot straight up from the water and landed on them in California.
The entire incident was filmed by a cruise company, whose ship was in the area for a whale-watching tour. "The kayak! Where's the kayak?" a woman on the ship says "He knocked it over!" another passenger says, according to The Huffington Post.
After being knocked out of the kayak by the breaching whale, which can weigh between 40 and 50 tons, the man and woman were flung underwater, but were saved by other kayakers and their life vests, reported a local TV station.
"Kayaking with whales can be extremely dangerous," said Captain Michael Sack who was guiding the cruise ship from where a passenger filmed the goose-bump-giving escape. "This was one of the more dangerous situations that i've seen out here. I'm not sure if at this point these two know how lucky they were," the channel, WPTZ, reported.
