New Delhi:

He was arrested along with Massimiliano Girone in February and jailed in Kochi after they shot dead two fishermen who they allegedly mistook for pirates.
After allowing them to spend a few days at home for Christmas, the Supreme Court permitted them to go to Italy for four weeks to vote in the national election.
Last night, the Italian Foreign Ministry informed New Delhi that they will not travel back to India. Italy has argued for months that because the shooting took place in international waters, India does not have jurisdiction over the case. Italy has said it is open to international mediation.
The death of the fishermen Ajesh Binki and Gelastine, has become an emotive issue in Kerala. Dora, wife of Gelastine, said: "This is nothing but a conspiracy at the highest level and the Indian government should see that they bring back the two marines to stand trial in the case in our country."
