Woman strangled by hijab in go-kart accident

Sydney: A 27-year-old woman was killed after her hijab got entangled in a go-kart in an Australian town, a media report said on Friday.

The accident was witnessed by the victim's husband and children at Port Stephens on Thursday, theherald's website reported.

Paramedics tried to save the woman but she was pronounced dead after she was flown to John Hunter Hospital by a rescue helicopter.

The woman, from Sydney, suffered severe neck and throat injuries in the accident at Port Stephens Go-Karts after her scarf became entangled while she was driving, the media report said.

The accident took place at Bobs Farm.

Sharon Taylor, who was at the track with her family, said that there were only two karts on the track when the woman was injured.

"The kart hit the wall and stopped and she was just slumped over," she was quoted as saying.

Sharon's husband, Scott Taylor, said the severity of the woman's injuries was obvious as soon as paramedics began to treat her.

He said: "Her clothing had wrapped around her neck."
