Rome:
Milan police arrested six mobsters on suspicion of kidnapping and shooting a crime-boss's ex-girlfriend last November and dissolving her body in acid.
Carabinieri Col Lorenzo Falferi says police don't know which of the suspects shot Lea Garofalo, 35. Carlo Cosco, a reputed 'ndrangheta crime boss and Garofalo's ex-boyfriend, was among those arrested yesterday.
Garofalo was last seen getting into Cosco's car in Milan. A couple of years earlier she had refused to have personal police escorts after she started collaborating with prosecutors.
Police said today conversations in a bugged prison cell revealed Garofalo's fate. They believe the Calabrian-based 'ndrangheta gang punished her for working with
authorities. Her body has not been found.
