Americans across the United States have cast their vote for the 2024 US Presidential election. Millions of US citizens voted on Tuesday, November 5 to elect their next President in a largely two-way contest between the current Vice President, Kamala Harris, who is the Democratic presidential candidate and US's former President Donald Trump, who is her Republican rival. Donald Trump is seeking a second term in the top office after he lost the previous US election against current President Joe Biden. Despite being the original presidential choice for Democrats for the 2024 election, President Biden had decided not to seek a second term in office.
While Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is the Democratic vice presidential candidate and Kamala Harris's running mate, US Senator for Ohio, JD Vance is the Republican vice presidential candidate and Donald Trump's running mate. As always, the swing states or battleground states play a very crucial role in deciding who wins the election. Swing states are states where both Democratic and Republican parties have similar levels of support among voters. These states are crucial as they often become the deciding factor for election outcome. The swing states are Georgia, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona, and Pennsylvania.

After the newly elected members of the House of Representatives and the Senate are sworn into office, the US Congress convenes a joint session to officially count and certify the results of the presidential election. This will happen on January 6, 2025.Based on this, the next President and Vice President of the United States will take their oath of office on January 20, 2025.More than 158.4 million people voted in the 2020 US Presidential Election, amounting to 62.8% of people of voting age, according to Pew Research Center.
